Climate change poses a monumental challenge to the world, threatening the survival and development of humankind. The global average temperature has already risen by nearly 1.2°C since pre-industrial times, inching closer to the 1.5°C limit set by the Paris Agreement. Humanity now stands at a pivotal moment. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged nations to tackle this "climate emergency" with coordinated, decisive actions to achieve carbon neutrality and combat climate change. Carbon neutrality is not only essential to addressing the climate crisis but also serves as a catalyst for sustainable development and the green transformation of the global economy, fostering a shared future for all.
From 11-22 November, 2024, The 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. During which, on 15 November, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization will host an event themed "Accelerating Global Climate Action through Reliable Renewable Energy Substitution". It will highlight successful practices in clean energy integration and electrification, contributing to the global transition to clean energy and efforts to mitigate climate change.
The Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) represents a groundbreaking energy system that emphasizes clean energy generation, wide-scale energy distribution, and electrification of end-use consumption. GEI serves as a critical platform for the large-scale development, transmission, and utilization of clean energy worldwide. It is a key enabler of the global energy transition, steering away from fossil fuel dependence and paving the way for a zero-pollution, zero-carbon, high-efficiency energy future. By addressing the constraints of fossil fuels, GEI offers a transformative solution to the climate challenges we face, promoting the sustainable development of both energy and the environment.
